Strawflower, also known as paper daisy or everlasting daisy, is a garden annual of the aster family. The plant is native to Australia where it grows in open grassland areas. It was introduced to England in 1799.
Strawflowers generally reach 20 to 80 cm in height. The green stems are rough and covered with fine hairs. Sitting atop the stems above the foliage, the flower heads are 5 to 8 cm wide. They come in shades of red, salmon, purple, yellow, pink and white. The flowers have a pom-pom look to them though they most resemble the daisy in form. They begin to appear in July and will continue up until the first frost.
