The rich-green leaves of lupine are palmately compound. Wild lupine has 7 to 11 leaflets, only reaching 5 cm in length; the garden lupine – also called bigleaf lupine – has 11 to 17 leaflets that reach 13 cm in length. Lupine leaves are toothless, hairless on the upper surface, silky hairy on the underside, pointed at the tip, and tapering at the base.
My image shows a leaf of a garden lupine. Do you see the resemblance with some of the fireworks displays I just posted here?
