Ice crystals and ice flowers fascinate scientists and photographers alike. Their shape depends, among other things, on the temperature. Star-shaped ice crystals form between 0 and three degrees below zero. Below minus three degrees, leaflets, prisms and needles form. Because dirt particles influence the growth of ice crystals, they are often not symmetrical.
