Firebugs (Pyrrhocoris apterus) (7)

Firebugs form large, dense, and conspicuous red-and-black aggregations. Tens to hundreds gather on tree bark, rocks, or sunny ground during spring and autumn. These gatherings aid in thermoregulation, protection from predators, and increased mating opportunities.

Firebugs may look dangerous but are utterly harmless to humans and animals. They do not bite and do not produce venom.
