Garden Peony (Paeonia officinalis) (2)

Garden Peony (Paeonia officinalis) (2)

This cultivar of Paeonia officinalis apparently originated in Central Asia and has never been found in the wild. The blossoms are cup-shaped (diameter about 7 cm) and magenta pink, with a center of pale-yellow stamens. The flowers appear to hover above the dark, bluish-green leaves. There is also a white variety.

I captured the bud of a garden peony in a garden of a neighbor.
