The larvae of most Anthomyiidae flies, which resemble houseflies in appearance, feed on plants and are serious pests. Larvae of cabbage maggot (Delia radicum) feed on the underground parts of cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, radishes, and turnips. Those of onion maggot (Delia antiqua) eat on the underground bulbs and stems. Larvae of seedcorn maggot (Delia platura) feed on the seeds and seedlings of a variety of crops, including corn (maize), peas, and beans.
