Spotted Longhorn (Rutpela maculata) (2)

The spotted longhorn beetle completes its life cycle in two to three years. It spends most of its life as larvae which are polyphagous in the wood of deciduous trees. It is particularly fond of birch.

Adults can be encountered from May to August. They only live two to four weeks. The spotted longhorn is a common flower-visitors, feeding on pollen and nectar. It prefers umbelliferous species.
