Flower Spider (Misumena vatia) (1)

Misumena vatia, a species of crab spider, can be found all over the Northern Hemisphere. It commonly occupies yellow or white flowers but can also be found on herbs and shrubs.

This species is a sit-and-wait predator [ambush predator] that does not use a web for prey capture. Instead, flower spiders sit perched with their front pairs of legs spread open wide, ready to snatch whatever insect comes too close. With a venomous bite [not dangerous to humans] they kill their prey and suck it dry.
