The green-veined white is a highly unique butterfly found throughout Europe, North America, and Asia. It is known for its striking yellow-gray coloration on the underside of its hindwings.
The name of the green-veined white comes from the thick, dark gray scales lined with yellow scales along the veins of its underwings. When at rest, these scales create a mossy green pattern that serves as camouflage against damp vegetation.
The female has two prominent black spots in the center of the forewing. Veining is more pronounced than that of the males. The male is generally less well marked with a single black spot.
