Black-Tailed Skimmer (Orthetrum cancellatum) (1)

The black-tailed skimmer is a medium-sized dragonfly with a tapering abdomen. It is widespread in Europe and Asia and one of the most commonly seen dragonflies there. This species is still increasing its range northwards. This is assisted by global warming.

This black-tailed skimmer is found at open waters with bare patches along the shore. There, patrolling males frequently rest in the sun.
