The flowers of Helenium bigelovii attract various pollinators, including bees, butterflies, wasps and other pollinating insects. Because the plant is pollinated by insects, and not by wind pollinated, it does not cause seasonal allergies or sneezing, despite its common name. The plant owes its name to historic use of the crushed dried leaves and heads to make a form of snuff that caused sneezing.
