Winter aconite is a plant in the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae), native to Asia Minor and Europe. There, it originates from woodland areas. The solitary cup-shaped flowers have a width of about 3 cm. They are surrounded by bright green bracts that look like a collar around the blossom. There are six brilliant yellow petals in each flower and numerous stamens and pistils in the center.
Winter Aconites are late winter and early spring flowers. This tuberous herbaceous perennial can spread to form large clumps and colonies.
