Irises (Iris Barbata-Eliator) are one of the oldest garden plants, along with roses and lilies. The huge variety of irises is the result of decades of breeding. Iris germanica has been crossed with various natural forms and hybrids.
The Botanical Garden Brüglingen has a large iris collection comprising about 1’500 varieties and quite a number can be seen in bloom every year in the early summer.
My photo shows iris buds of the cultivar ‘Sandalwood’.
