Nosferatu Spider (Zoropsis spinimana) (2)

The Nosferatu spider belongs to the ‘false wolf spider’ family (Zoropsidae). It reaches a body length of just under two cm and legs spans of up to six cm. Males are smaller than females.

The spider originally comes from the Mediterranean region and was first discovered in the Basel area in 1994. In the years that followed, it spread along the transportation routes of the main south-north transport axes.

The species has been able to establish itself along the Rhine and its tributaries thanks to the favorable climatic conditions here. In the meantime, the spider has almost become native.
