Vlieland – A Dutch Car-Free Island in the North Sea (22)

Vlieland is a paradise for bird-watchers. 140 different species of birds come here to breed, and tens of others use the island as a stopover to build up reserves for their continuing migration. You can observe, among others, redshanks, curlews and oystercatchers, spoonbills, ducks and geese.

One of the best birding areas on Vlieland is Kroon’s Polders – a fascinating area of dunes and wetlands – with a splendid bird hide and thousands of birds during high tide.
