Flotsam and jetsam next to Vlieland’s famous ‘rescue house’ (in Dutch ‘Drenkelingenhuisje’).

The rescue house stands on stilts in a huge area of sand. This 24 sq km sand plain is the largest of its kind in Europe. It is called ‘Vliehors’ or ‘Sahara of the North’.

The rescue house was built a long time ago for shipwrecked people. Nowadays, it houses a small museum with interesting items found on Vlieland’s beaches.
