Cherry Plum (Prunus cerasifera) (1)

Cherry Plum (Prunus cerasifera) (1)

Cherry plum is a deciduous tree and one of the first Prunus species to flower in spring.

Cherry plum blossoms are white with a hint of soft pink on the inside. The intensely fragrant flowers are attractive to bees and other pollinating insects.

Cherry plum fruits are round and small, very much like cherries. They are born in abundance, usually red in color. There are yellow-fruiting varieties, too.

Cherry plums are edible; some are sweet and juicy. Whether the fruits taste good largely depends on the tree variety.
