Tommasini’s Crocuses (Crocus tommasinianus) (14)

Tommasini’s Crocuses (Crocus tommasinianus) (14)

My photos of Tommasini’s crocuses were all taken at the same day and in the same place. A large patch of Tommasini’s crocuses in the botanical garden of the University of Basel is surrounded by a walkway from which I captured the blooms.

I find the different depictions of the crocus flowers very exciting. Some of the photos look like they were taken of different crocus species or were heavily photoshopped. But none is the case.

I assume the different depictions are due to different developmental stages of the crocus flowers, and also by different light conditions in different places of the crocus patch. Some of the flowers were captured with the light, others against it. Some of the plants were in bright sunlight, others in the shade or somewhere in between.
