The blooming magnolias in Basel attract many visitors, who have their photos taken against the backdrop of the blossoms – often for social media. Unfortunately, it has become increasingly common in recent times for the trees to be damaged by inconsiderate amateur models. Some even climb the trees, tearing off blossoms or entire branches in the process.
Basel’s city gardening department has now put up signs to raise awareness among admirers of the trees about this problem. If that doesn’t work, the city gardening department will have to erect fences around the magnolias during their short blooming season.
